Luminous, healthier skin with Mineral Foundation

Organic has indeed become the new trend and the use of minerals has transformed the way consumers perceive cosmetics, especially foundation. A mineral foundation is now the ultimate solution for a soft, natural glowing finish said to last more hours as compared with ordinary foundations. Containing nothing but organic ingredients, mineral foundations provide a long-lasting finish that is healthy for the skin.

A mineral foundation is comprised of different organic ingredients infused together to give the skin a natural, buildable coverage without any traces of makeup settling or creasing. These include organic extracts, mica, titanium dioxide, iron oxide and inulin.

Organic extracts are common ingredients in mineral foundation, and these extracts are responsible for giving the skin a healthy glow. Among the most common extracts used in mineral foundations is Citrus Grandis, also known as Grapefruit. Grapefruit extracts have been proven to improve skin health. It is non-toxic and has no side effect at all.

Other organic extracts used in healthy cosmetics (i.e. mineral foundations) are rosmarinus officinalis or organic rosemary extract, vitis vinifera or organic grape seed extract, and simmondsia chinensis or organic jojoba extract.

Another ingredient of a mineral foundation is mica. It is basically responsible for the shine-free look and matte finish after application of the mineral makeup. Mica acts like an anti-aging ingredient that covers irregularities and wrinkles by deflecting light out of them, thus giving the face a younger look and a smoother feel. Mica is also suitable to almost all skin types, so wearing a mineral foundation that contains mica would not be a problem.

Moreover, mica is non-comedogenic, allowing the skin to breathe even in long hours of wearing mineral foundation or makeup. Since mica does not clog pores, it will not cause or aggravate existing acne problems.

Titanium dioxide, on the other hand, evens irregularities in facial complexion. Moreover, it acts as a sunscreen, thus protecting the face from harmful UV rays. Unlike chemical sunscreens which generally enter the blood stream and eventually generate cancer-causing, free radicals, the all-natural titanium dioxide simply covers the skin surface and disperses the harmful rays so that they would not penetrate the skin.

Also, while mineral foundations containing mica are generally friendly to the skin, adding titanium dioxide makes the product more hypo-allergenic.

Replacing chemical dyes in makeups is the iron oxide. Iron oxides, together with mica, generate a vast range of colour, allowing mineral foundations to have greater shades of richer colour than the traditional ones. Aside from the fact that it is hundred-percent natural, iron oxide is also weather resistant. Therefore, mineral foundations with iron oxide will last long and not wear off easily due to outdoor climate.

Finally, in order to make sure that a mineral foundation spreads evenly when applied into the skin, inulin is included in the roster of organic ingredients. A naturally occurring sugar found in plants and vegetable roots, inulin emulsifies the foundation so that it will not chip nor break. It also helps in maintaining the skin’s moisture.

Foundation & Base: How To Select A Color To Match Your Skintone

Selecting a Foundation to Match Your Natural Skintone…

Your natural skintone can best be seen in natural daylight, and you can show off your unique skintone with a perfectly-matched foundation.  It is important to remember that the purpose of a foundation is to simply ‘even out’ the facial skintone.  Similar to an artist preparing a canvas for painting, a foundation will provide a smooth, even ‘base’ for your eye, lip and cheek colors.  A foundation will also conceal any patchy areas of uneven skintone.  A well-matched foundation will allow you to better showcase your facial features by adding color through lip, eye and cheek tones.  Below are some tips for selecting foundation, concealer and loose powder.

To provide a smooth canvas for lip, eye and cheek colors, a foundation that is perfectly-matched to your natural skin color is essential.  The purpose of a perfectly-matched foundation is to simply ‘even out’ the facial skintone, not to add color to the face.  A perfectly-matched foundation color will match your neck as well, so that there is no tonal difference between the face and neck (no mismatched colors at the jawline and no applying foundation to the neck).   You can also use a creamy, opaque concealer to cover any dark undereye circles.  Undereye circles are very unflattering in photos and can make the eyes appear ‘tired’, so if you have any dark shadows under your eyes, do use an opaque concealer to camouflage them.  Concealer can also be dotted carefully onto any untimely breakouts.  Seal both foundation and concealer with a loose powder (applied with a soft large powder brush) for a smooth, matte finish.  Important:  Do ensure that these three items - foundation, concealer and loose powder - are a perfect match to your skintone (no pinkish or peach-toned loose powders applied on top of your carefully-matched foundation shade!).  Avoid using heavy-looking foundation on younger skins; a powder foundation, sometimes called a ‘dual finish’, provides a lightweight coverage, will ‘even out’ the skintone and is age-appropriate.  Be cautious if the skin is acne-prone – a powder foundation or an oil-free liquid foundation works best for acne-prone skins (do not add an oily, moisturizing foundation product to oily skin, it can cause breakouts).  Other types of foundations include liquids and creams.  Liquid foundations are also popular, fairly lightweight and easy to apply.  Cream foundations should be used only on very dry skin since they are typically designed to be a ‘moisturizing’ foundation.

SELECTING A FOUNDATION SHADE:  To select a foundation shade that is an exact match to your skin, use natural (outdoor) light and a mirror.  Stripe several different sample shades from your jawline down onto your neck.  Look in the mirror while in outdoor light.  The shade that disappears onto your neck is the shade you want.  Your foundation shade can now be used as a guideline color to carefully select a matching concealer and loose powder.  Using natural (outdoor) lighting for this process ensures there are no hidden undertones (pink, orange or red) in your foundations, concealers and powders.  Please note: indoor lighting can hide undertones and distort some colors during the critical shade selection process, so for best results use outdoor light to make your tonal decisions for foundation, concealer and powder.

After you’ve found your perfect foundation, concealer and powder, now you can add color to your face and define your features with your makeup colors!  it is recommended to use high-pigment powder eye shadows, eye liners, powder blushers, lip liners and lip glosses for longest-lasting results.  Highly-pigmented makeup tones will also show up most beautifully in photos, videos and on stage.

How to Choose the Perfect Foundation

Foundations are used to even skin tones and conceal imperfections of the skin.  It also helps to protect the skin from dirt and debris from the environment.  Stick, liquid, and cream-to-powder foundations gives natural looking coverage with a slight sheen.  Foundations that contain mineral or essential oils are referred to as oil-based.  An oil-based foundation is ideal for skin that is normal to dry.  Oil-free foundations are referred to as water-based.  This means that water is the main ingredient.  Water-based cream-to-powder, liquid or powder foundations will generally give a matte finish.  Water-based foundations are ideal for oily skin because they will not add more oil to the skin.

Choosing the correct foundation color is essential. It should create an even canvas for the application of the rest of your make up.  Foundation should match as close as possible to your natural skin color.  If foundation color is to light it will have a gray ashy appearance and will exaggerate imperfections in the skin.  If the color is too dark it will make your skin appear dirty or muddy. If your foundation practically disappears after applying a small amount on your skin, you have chosen the correct shade.  When applying powder and cream-to-powder use a moist or dry facial sponge. If you are applying liquid, tube or tinted foundations use your fingertips or a facial sponge.

If you need to wear a concealer apply the same principles for choosing foundations.  Concealers are used to cover discolorations and or blemishes. Although concealers can be applied before or after foundation, I always recommend applying before foundation.  This makes it easier for blending.  Be careful when using concealers for example applying concealer around the eyes, that is too light it will give you a “raccoon” like look and draw attention to the problem area.

Lastly, apply a facial powder. It improves the attractiveness of the skin by enhancing natural beauty. Face powder also sets the foundation.  Now you have a perfect canvas for makeup application. Find professional quality products at www.admirecosmetics.com.

Ability to Alter Agricultural DNA Presented During Study

DNA. It plays a key role in establishing how we all look and behave and determines the genetic foundation from which all organisms are built. From the color of a baby’s eyes, to how many kernels grow on an ear of corn – the field of genetics continues to unravel the answers to the ever-occurring question, “Why are we the way we are?”

Officially classified as a branch of biology, genetics is defined as the science of genes, heredity, and the variation of organisms. Studied since the mid-19th century, genes are made up of units referred to as DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), which dictate not only the traits a life form inherits but also how it will continue to evolve.

Change, or evolution, of a gene typically occurs over the course of many generations. However, changes in gene expression can occur during the lifetime of an organism. Once a modification of this nature takes place it is then transmitted on to future generations. This process is referred to as DNA polymorphism and it plays an elemental role in the evolution of most life forms, including agricultural crops.

Traditional Treatments for the Prevention of Agricultural Disease
Today, many crops are treated with common pesticides – insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides, etc. — to protect them against destruction and disease. These known methods offer certain benefits and are often effective. However, there are also drawbacks, such as potential toxicity to humans, other animals and the environment.

Alternative Treatments for the Prevention of Agricultural Disease
Alternative treatments are also in use and readily available. Many of these often less toxic approaches to disease prevention in agriculture can be conducted with the use of thermal and cultivation methods, biological pest controls and genetic engineering, among others.

Ability to Effect Change in Agricultural Crops Through the Application of Energy Transmissions Treatment
Results of a study conducted during 2006 in Quebec, Canada at the DNA Landmark, investigated the application of energy transmissions treatment to affect DNA polymorphism in canola, tomato and cotton crops.

Study Preparation
Two series of seed samples, made up of equal amounts of canola, tomato and cotton seeds, were prepared and separated into two random groups – one treatment group (Series A) and one control group (Series B).

Series B was kept at DNA Landmark where it received no treatment. Series A was shipped to Madhuri Sharon where Mr. Mahendra Kumar Trivedi applied an energy transmission treatment. The treated seeds were then returned to DNA Landmark.

Once the treatment group was received two seeds from each crop type were taken from both Series A and Series B and planted in two separate plots.

Study Analysis
When the plants reached the appropriate stage of growth, samples were harvested from the leaves of each plant and evaluated for DNA polymorphism.

Study Results
The level of change in genetic expression varied for each crop. The percentage of polymorphism observed between the seeds that received treatment and those that remained untreated is represented as follows:
• Tomato 0%
• Cotton 4%
• Canola 15%

This indicates that the energy transmissions treatment applied by Mr. Trivedi were able to invoke a DNA polymorphic effect.

There were also further findings, which showed that the effects of energy transmissions treatment continued after the first generation of plants and appeared in the second-generation seedlings.

Results of Other Related Projects
In addition to the study conducted at DNA Landmark in Canada, a number of similar yet separate projects were carried out in India. The combined outcome of these projects concluded that energy transmissions treatments, all applied by Mr. Trivedi, were able to alter the genetic expression of 40 crops.

In these instances, the evidence of DNA polymorphism ranged from 7.8% in sponge gourd crops, to a high of 69% in yellow pigeon peas.

This data also points to the potential of increasing the following outcomes in harvested crops.
• Nutritional value
• Yields
• Immunity to disease
• Shelf life of crops

Significance of Future Applications
The significance of this study focuses around the importance of DNA polymorphism and the ability to invoke it without the need of invasive or toxic treatments. By continuing to investigate the applications of energy transmissions treatment, we could further enhance our capacity to grow crops with out the need of chemical fertilizers or pesticides…ultimately benefiting the agricultural industry and humanity, as a whole.

Foundation For Dark Skin From Orissa Cosmetics

It is well documented that women with dark skin tones are under-represented by UK’s makeup industry.

With approximately 3.6million of the UK’s population representing the Black African/Black Caribbean/Indian/Pakistani minority [Census, 2001], Orissa’s innovative range aims to plug the gap in the UK’s mainstream cosmetics market by by providing carefully selected shades of natural foundations, natural blushers, natural bronzers and natural eye shadows that dramatically enhance and perfectly match darker skin tones.

Mainstream brands such as Mac, Clinique and L’Oreal sometimes fail to understand that ‘standardised’ makeup are not well suited for women with darker skin tones.

Mainstream foundation cannot match everyone’s exact skin tones – this is generally because their range of shades are so wide, from white to dark skin – because of this there are much wider gaps between individual tones.

As a result, many women are using the wrong makeup for their skin type leaving their skin look uneven and ashy.

Orissa Cosmetics has decided to focus on a specific group of women and provide smaller gaps between shades to ensure a closer match.

All foundations contain a natural sun protection factor (SPF) 15-30 and are 100% mineral based with no parabens, preservatives or chemical dyes.

Tried and tested by Mooky Chick

“Orissa Mocha Foundation blended well into my skin. I know that for a fact, because I didn’t believe Orissa could find a dark skin tone foundation that was right for me…”

How to apply
